Who are we?
The Gibraltar Jewish community is the oldest Jewish community in the Iberian Peninsula in continuous operation for 300 years. Despite its relatively small size, it is extremely prominent in the Jewish world, attracting high profile figures such as the Chief Rabbi of Israel in 2019 and members of the Israeli parliament. The community boasts numerous fully functioning synagogues, private schools, an academy for the training of Rabbis, kosher restaurants and more.
The Gibraltar Kashrut Authority was established to meet the needs of the ever-growing Kosher food industry in some of the world’s largest food hubs in Spain and neighbouring Portugal and Morocco. It was established with the expertise, vast experience and knowledge of the local food industry to raise the standards of kosher certification available locally. GKA has very quickly gained the trust and confidence of international kashrut experts and clientele worldwide.
Rabbi R. Hassid
Senior Kashrut Authority
Rabbi Hassid is the senior kashrut authority of GKA. He has a wealth of expertise and experience in the industrial food industry since he became Chief Rabbi of Gibraltar in 1985. Rabbi Hassid is well recognised and respected throughout the international Jewish community where he has been working throughout the years together with numerous world leading kashrut agencies, certifying numerous factories in Spain as well as running multiple special kosher production runs. He was ordained for Rabbinics by the Chief Rabbinate of Israel.
Rabbi Hassid oversees and authorises all kashrut related matters of the GKA.
Rabbi David Dadash
Senior Rabbinical director
Rabbi Dadash has been GKA’s Rabbinical director since its founding. He studied Rabbinics and Jewish law for over 15 years in some of the famous academies in Gateshead and Israel. He was ordained in 2012 by the Chief Rabbinate of Israel and several times since. He has accumulated much experience and expertise in the kashrut field over the years through training and working together with some of the greatest international kashrut agencies.
Rabbi Dadash coordinates between companies looking to become kosher certified and the GKA and he carries out many of the field audits and inspections.
Rabbi Moshe Nahon
Local Rabbinical coordinator
Rabbi Nahon is a Spanish native, he studied Rabbinics in the UK and served as a community Rabbi in Montreal, Canada for 20 years where he also worked with the major American kashrut organisations.
Rabbi Nahon is responsible for the kashrut certification of Gibraltar’s local establishments, including four kosher restaurants and a bakery.
Rabbi Mordechai Benady
Chairman of Kashrut committee
Rabbi Benady is a 5th generation Gibraltarian. He studied in yeshiva in Paris and then at Manchester university. He went on to study Rabbinics in the Gibraltar kollel and is now the director of RSM accountancy firm, Gibraltar.
Rabbi Benady oversees and authorises all policies and operations of the Gibraltar Kashrut Authority.
Direct kosher certification
Our kosher certification approves products as kosher for all year round use. Typical products include ingredients used in manufacturing industries as well as shelf ready products. We can certify entire factories as well as single production runs.
